At the time of writing (May 2025) WA CIC have over 500 items that we have recovered and which are recorded on the British Museums Portable Antiquities Scheme, (PAS). <\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a database where people can record items that they find and all details are recorded. This has rapidly led to a huge database that anyone can access and has added a great deal of knowledge about our history.<\/p>\n

WA CIC have a small group of experienced amateur Archaeologists & metal detectorists who are all interested in the history of the area and not in profit or personal benefit. We are not experts and as such we use the experts at PAS for identification of finds.<\/p>\n

As there are just over a thousand items recovered from Wirral our group has over 50% of the database entries.<\/p>\n

It is important to note that WA CIC make no claim on any item recovered. Items remain the property of the landowner as we are \u201call about the history \u201c.<\/p>\n

The fact that we record so much has led to approaches being made to us by some professional historians and academics and we are always happy to help. Indeed we have loaned items for examinations and testing which is again all about increasing knowledge of our history.<\/p>\n

We have items recovered from field walking and metal detecting dating from the Neolithic (4000-2200 BC) right through to the present day. However PAS Liverpool only record items that are over 300 years old unless they are of specific interest.<\/p>\n

On the finds page are a selection of some of our finds with the link to the PAS database entry. We would encourage you to have a look at the database along with its guides as they are a great source of information.<\/p>\n

We have a continuous stream of recovered items being submitted to PAS so keep an eye on our site to see the latest ones that have been put onto the PAS database.<\/p>\n
