A collection from Meols and a few more from around the area. Most are from the everyday life of the local inhabitants.<br \/>\nWe have strap ends like the one below, buckles, spindle whorls and gaming pieces. Unfortunately there are NO finds like posh brooches on the Wirral (non at all) and no huge stashes of weapons like some books would lead you to believe but we will keep looking.<\/p>\n<p>This find though is quite beautiful even in its present condition.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1671\" src=\"https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"STRAP END\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-2048x1365.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-1800x1200.jpeg 1800w, https:\/\/wirralarchaeology.org\/pages\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LVPL-72FFAA-1200x800.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A mostly complete, but bent, zoomorphic strap end dating to the early medieval period (c.AD 750-950). The strap end is of Thomas&#8217; Class A, Type 2. The strap end is sub-oval&nbsp;with a zoomorphic terminal at the closed end; the opposite end is split with two incompete rivet holes for attachment. The end terminal of the strap end is zoomorphic in the form of&nbsp;a forward facing animal head with a moulded snub-nosed snout, and moulded rounded ears. The upper plate has an incised decoration of chevrons within a rectangular cell.
